The postwar struggle for civil rights : African Americans in San Francisco, 1945-1975 by Paul T. Miller.

This work examines how African Americans living in San Francisco experienced discrimination in work and housing and at the hands of the police between 1945 and 1975, a period of extremely rapid growth for the African American population of that city, and describes how they organized for civil rights. As the author describes these events, he also places the daily-life experiences of the city's African American population and the activist struggles for civil rights within the context of the wider politico-economic evolution of the city in general.
